The Home Bar Essentials You Need this Holiday Season

The holiday season is in full swing and what better way to celebrate than with a few rounds of drinks amongst family and friends. Tiana Ludhani, the Co-Founder & CMO of Cuban inspired bar, The Daily Tot, and Social Media Manager of Drink Magazine gave us her essentials for creating a versatile cocktail bar at home.

#1 Timeless Bartending Books

It’s essential to have two to three good bar books at home to use as reference in creating either classic or more modern cocktails. A staple in my home bar cart are The Curious Bartender series which I refer to over and over again.

#2 High Quality Bar Tools

Having the right tools is so important. Luckily, you don’t need much to get started. I recommend having these essential tools to start with:

  • Two piece Boston tin shaker or a three piece cobbler shaker
  • Strainer
  • Muddler for mashing fruit
  • Mixing glass
  • Stirrer

#3 Glassware for Different Cocktail Styles

A big part of the experience when drinking cocktails is the serving glass they are in. In addition to wine glasses, you can stock up on these three types of glassware for your home collection:

  • Balloon glass for gin and tonics or any spritzes
  • Martini glass for martinis and other standard drinks
  • Highball glass for fizzy drinks

#4 A Range of Liquor & Bitters

No home bar would be complete without the liquor and bitters. While we see a whole wall of liquor in our favorite bars, you can keep it simple with a strong foundation of liquors and bitters

  • Rum
  • Tequila
  • Mancino Vermouth
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Optional: Walnut or Chocolate Bitters for variety
