Getting Started with Crystals In Your Home and Life
Winter Solstice is right around the corner and we caught up with Jess Huang, founder of Bravais Crystal, to share how we can incorporate crystals into our homes and our lives.
Bravais Crystal was founded at the end of 2020 by Jess Huang and since then, it has grown to become a part of people’s lives, homes, and daily rituals. Jess started out with a passion in crystal collecting and today shares high-quality crystals around the world with other collectors.
Can you tell us a little bit about crystals and crystal healing?
The world of healing crystals is having a moment. Crystal healing is a term that applies to a certain type of therapy which involves placing gemstones on your body or in nearby places to help draw out negative energy. Crystals have existed on earth for millions of years and they're a tool which works with your energy field to absorb, focus, and direct energies.
How can we incorporate crystals into our homes and what is the biggest benefit of using crystals at home?
If there is one thing every home needs more of, it’s positive energy, and this is something crystals bring in. While some people think crystals are a little out there, there is an established reason why their energy works. It’s called the piezoelectric effect, which, to simplify, means crystals can change the form of energy. For example, the quartz in watches converts electricity (the battery) into mechanical energy (the hands moving). Computer chips and some other electronics also contain quartz.
People put crystals in interesting places. Some keep them inside their bags. I personally put mine in my handbag or pocket but they also work well when tucked around the house, depending on its purpose. Another great place to put crystals in is on your nightstand because you can feel their energy while you sleep. Behind your computer at work is also a good spot. It's best to keep them in spots where you spend a lot of time.
Which crystals would you recommend for the winter solstice?
There are no specific crystals for the seasons, but for the winter solstice, I would say the best crystals to work with are red, orange, and white crystals. These are ones that connect you to solar energy and fire energy. Sit with them in meditation, create a crystal grid, speak your intentions into them, or wear them on your body.
Choosing a crystal is very personal and is about your intention and what you’re trying to attract. While all crystals are beautiful, it’s best to choose one based on its properties. However, there are exceptions. Sometimes you find yourself particularly drawn to a specific rock. Even if you’re only drawn to it because of aesthetics, you should still choose that crystal. There’s a reason you are attracted to it and it’s good to follow that instinct.
Is there anything else you recommend we can do at home to prepare for the winter solstice and the upcoming new year?
There are no specific rules, but it’s best to keep stones where their specific energy will serve you in the highest way possible. For example, both Amethyst and Pyrite are associated with prosperity, so it would be wise to keep those stones where you like to work.
Rose quartz, on the other hand, attracts love, making it an ideal stone for the bedroom.
Apophyllite and Clear Crystal Quartz are associated with positivity and purifying, so I would suggest placing them in the living room.
You can keep stones on tables, shelves, mantles, and other places you see fit. You will know the right place for your stone .
